Bio

An educator since 2001, Gregory Pittman is currently a middle school administrator in South Carolina. He holds certifications in choral music education and educational administration and supervision. As a choral director in South Carolina and Texas, his choirs consistently earned Superior ratings in adjudicated festivals and his students routinely earned acceptance into auditioned honor choirs throughout the Southeast.

Mr. Pittman is a past President of the South Carolina Music Educators Association Choral Division. From 2004 to 2011, he was an adjunct professor of music at Charleston Southern University, where he taught voice, music education, music appreciation, and directed CSU’s men’s choir. In addition to his work as a choral conductor, Mr. Pittman has produced and directed the music for musicals such as My Fair Lady; Les Misérables; You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown; and Little Shop of Horrors.

Mr. Pittman maintains an active performance schedule and has performed in many spectacular venues, including New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts; Bethlehem, Palestine, where he performed Handel’s Messiah on Christmas Eve; and choral residencies at Canterbury Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. He is a Principal Tenor for The King’s Counterpoint, a choral ensemble based in Charleston, South Carolina, and is on the choral staff of Charleston’s historic Old St. Andrew's Parish Church. He has also appeared with other professional ensembles, including Cantores Charleston, the Taylor Festival Choir, and the Cecilia Ensemble. Aside from academic music, Mr. Pittman has performed backup vocals for Andy Williams, Lori Morgan, and Charlie Daniels.

Mr. Pittman’s other interests include the study and practice of leadership, productivity, and parliamentary procedure. He received the Distinguished Scouter Award for leadership in the Boy Scouts of America and was, at one time, a Dixie Youth baseball umpire.

Mr. Pittman holds a Bachelor of Music degree in music education, a Master of Music degree in conducting, and a Master of Education degree in educational administration and supervision. He is certified in non-violent crisis intervention. He also holds micro-credentials in instructional coaching. His professional memberships include the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, ASCD (formerly Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), the American Choral Directors Association, and the South Carolina Music Educators Association. He has extensive additional studies in psychology and counseling.
