For months, my vehicle’s dashboard has insisted my front left tire was low on air, while all the other tires were showing full pressure. Every time I checked, though, the pressure in that tire was fine. After an oil change and tire rotation, the dealer confirmed my car was safe to drive, chalking it up to an aging pressure monitor. A $250 replacement didn’t seem worth it. I figured I could live without it and just check my tires the old-fashioned way, like we did before computers took over cars.
Tonight, I checked all of my tires and discovered the dashboard had been right all along. Sort of. The sensor wasn’t wrong; it was mis-mapped; the real culprit was my left rear tire, and it was dangerously low on air. Like 15 PSI!
So not only was the sensor misidentifying, the dealer never filled the tires during the rotation. That’s if they rotated the tires at all. 🤬
