Deep Cover - ★★★½

Deep Cover, starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed, along with heavyweights Sean Bean, Paddy Considine, and Ian McShane, isn’t the kind of film that will earn a 15-minute standing ovation at Cannes. But it will deliver an hour and a half of lighthearted fun and an easy evening’s watch.

Mohammed plays the type of character audiences already know him for, which feels a little too familiar. I think he’s a better actor than this type of role allows him to portray. It was fine in Ted Lasso, but it’s time for him to break away from that. Bloom shines as a struggling actor. And somewhat surprisingly, this turns out to be one of Howard’s stronger performances.

Poster for the movie Deep Cover. Three people stand in front of the London skyline with Big Ben visible in the background. A man on the left wears a blue quilted jacket and cap, holding money; a woman with braided red hair stands in the center wearing a black leather jacket; and a man on the right wears a green trench coat, holding papers. Large bold yellow text with a red outline reads DEEP COVER across the poster.
